Psycho-social Rehabilitation of Conflict-affected Children in Georgia

Goal: Psycho-social support to internally displaced children – restore the feeling of security and optimism among the children

Khurvaleti IDP settlement – cottage #69

Target group:

  • 76 children living in the collective settlement for IDPs in Khurvaleti (39 girls and 37 boys)
  • 271 adults of the settlement also benefitted from the project (216 women and 55 men)

Key activities and outcomes:

  • Psycho-social and rehabilitation services were provided to the internally displaced children and their families
  • Specific lessons were conducted in the following subjects: history, geography, world civilization, art, literature and religion. In addition, certain books were read to the children after which thematic discussions were arranged and drawings were painted about interesting topics
  • Music therapy lessons were carried out – expression of emotions through musical instruments
  • Group and individual meetings were held for psychological intervention for both children and their parents
  • Art therapy sessions were conducted by viagra sans ordonnance the psychologist for both age groups including role playing, exercises to practice imagination, communication, attention, memory and quick thinking. The beneficiaries jointly drew paintings around topics such as: My Georgia, Autumn, Winter, New Year, free topic. They also prepared greeting cards and applications.
  • Some logical and intellectual games were organized along with discussions, tests, quizzes and Q&A games.
  • Capacity building trainings were conducted for the parents
  • Competitions in chess, lotto and draught were organized
  • The center was provided with furniture, equipment, books, stationery, toys and materials for handicraft.

Revealed problems and needs of the settlement

  1. Lack of out-of-class supplement literature
  2. Lack of any conditions to spend leisure time in an organized manner, i.e. playground, stadium, entertainment center, etc.
  3. Need for social workers and legal consultancy
  4. Lack of warm clothes
  5. Need for planting greenery in the settlement
  6. Poor water provision
  7. Lack of sewage system
  8. Need to continue the program (request from the parents and the children)
