Cross-Disability Partnership for Protecting the Rights using Law

On February 15, 2021, the Anika Association, with the financial support of NDI, launched the one-year project "Cross-Disability Partnership for Protecting the Rights using Law" with the partner organization "Changes for Equal Rights". The project is implemented in Tbilisi, Shida Kartli, Guria and Adjara.

 

The aim of the project: to facilitate the implementation of the obligations undertaken by the state under the new Law of Georgia on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the municipal level, with the active involvement of the community of persons with disabilities.

Project objectives:

 

Forming a coalition in cooperation with Tbilisi and Batumi (Autonomous Republic of Adjara) non-governmental organizations of persons with disabilities;

 

Creating databases on organizations of persons with disabilities operating in Tbilisi, Shida Kartli, Guria and Adjara regions and analyzing the needs of the target regions;

 

Analysis of the Law of Georgia on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities with the active involvement of representatives of the disabled community;

A simplified seminar material on the law has been prepared in order to make it easier for non-legal people to understand and better understand the rights of people with disabilities.

The presentation of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has been prepared for submission to the community with disabilities and representatives of local municipalities, so that the law can be applied according to the identified needs for each region.

 

Seminars have been held with community members on the new law, planning and organizing advocacy campaigns based on regional needs.

 

Expected result of the project:

Development of coalition cooperation between the two regions (Tbilisi, capital of Georgia and Batumi, Autonomous Republic of Adjara) Databases of organizations of persons with disabilities have been created and their needs have been identified

Georgian Law Recommendations on Amendments to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have been submitted to the Parliament of Georgia and advocacy / lobbying for changes by the Coalition is underway.
